Info about Percy Smith

Lieutenant Percy Smith was my great great uncle. He served in the 8th Battalion of the(Queen's Own) Royal West Kents regiment. He joined the army in 1914 when he was just 18 after leaving Dartford Grammar School. He contiued to write to his old headmaster Mr. Mansford and the headmaster's daughter Gracie. He died the next year when he was 19.

All of these letters were typed out by Gracie in 1916 as a Christmas present for my great great aunt Elsie. I have used Textbridge Classic to OCR from these typed-out letters. As well as all of the letters there was a photo of him and the telegram telling my great great grandfather of Percy's death. It reads "War office regret to inform you that Lieut. P. Smith R. W. Kent Regt was reported wounded and missing Sept 25/27 secretary war office.
