Dear Gracie,

Thank you very much for your letter, but please excuse my long delay in answering. I did not get yours until Thursday night, for nowadays we go out early in the morning and do not return until teatime, hence your letter was waiting for me all day.

We had an Inspector General (General Murray) down here yesterday to inspect us besides our divisional and brigadier generals so you can imagine we were kept busy yesterday.
We were rewarded tho' for he spoke well of us and gave us a jolly good report.

It is getting on for breakfast time now, in fact it is 7.0.a.m, so I have but 30 minutes to breakfast and get ready.

I am afraid none of us could possibly get the week days off for leave, it is hard enough getting the week-end off nowadays and that only from Saturday afternoon until Sunday.

Plant and Needham wished me to remember them to you all at D.G.S. when writing.

My kind regards to Mrs Mansford and to yourself -- all good wishes and good luck to Mr Mansford.
